Montgomery County police are investigating a shooting death of a 22-year-old man near Wheaton High School early Wednesday in which the suspect later turned himself in to police.

Around 1 a.m., police responded to the sound of gunshots and received a call about a man with a gunshot wound. Police found the victim, who was already dead.

About an hour later, a 27-year-old walked into the police station at 2300 Randolph Road and claimed to be responsible for the killing. The suspect said he and the victim went to a home in the 3300 block of Randolph Road and there was a confrontation outside the home in the front yard, where the 22-year-old was shot and killed.

Police will release the names of the suspect and victim after the families have been notified and the alleged shooter has been formally charged.
