ART & JAZZ
The Smithsonian American Art Museum will host its final ArtJamz of the summer from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Art Jamz is normally a chance to paint at the Art Jamz studio and bar near Dupont Circle, but the evening event at the museum is much more, combining art with music and refreshments.
The Junior Mance Quintet will pay tribute to jazz great Thelonious Monk during the jam. Junior Mance knew Monk, shares a birthday with him, and, like him, plays keyboard. Taking in the concert is free, but for $40 you can paint on a 20-by-24-inch canvas with a variety of provided tools. Painters get 20 percent off food and drinks at the Courtyard Cafe during the event. Others can borrow board games from the cafe during the concert.
STAND UP
Every Thursday, the Arlington Cinema N Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike) opens its front lounge for up-and-coming local comics. For a $5 cover, a host at the Old Arlington Grill shows off two to four of the region's best professional comics over a 60-minute show starting at 8 p.m.
In addition to Thursday night stand-up, the grill has several other weekly events. On Saturdays starting at 10:30 p.m. it hosts comedy open mic, and on Fridays it hosts an acoustic open-mic night. Later this fall it will offer football-related specials on Sundays and Mondays, and starting at the end of September the grill will give other up-and-comers the mic for karaoke on Wednesdays.

RUM DAY
On National Rum Day, Cuba Libre (801 Ninth St. NW) is going all out. The restaurant and rum bar is offering 50 percent off rum and rum-based cocktails during "Caippy Hour" from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The bar has more than 90 kinds of rum from Guyana, Haiti, Nicaragua and Tortola. That's in addition to the restaurant's own rums, including the Cuba Libre 21-Year Special Reserve Rum for $17 per glass on National Rum Day and the Cuba Libre Dark Rum for $4 per glass Thursday.
Outside National Rum Day, Caippy Hour specials from Monday through Friday include $5 caipirinhas, $4 sangrias and house wines, and $4 Estrella Damm, plus a variety of $4 appetizers. - Andrea Cohen
