Andrew Lister of Haymarket was runner-up this week in the AJGA Nemacolin Junior Classic. Lister, a senior next fall at Battlefield High, shot a 3-over-par 71-74-74 – 219, Wednesday through Friday, finishing one stroke behind Nicholas Scott (72-75-71 – 218) of Union, Ohio.

It was the best AJGA finish for Lister, who won the individual Virginia AAA state championship last fall.

Lister was one of several players with a chance to win. He made consecutive birdies at Nos. 8-10 to move near the lead on Friday, but bogeys on the three of the last six holes were costly as he fell into a five-way tie for second. One of the runner-ups played the final six holes in 5-over, another played them in 3-over, another bogeyed the final two holes.

Other locals who made the cut in the 108-player field were North Potomac’s Connor Tendall (222), Rockville’s Ben Warnquist (226), Gaithersburg’s Nate Cohan (226), and Gaithersburg’s Brett Myers (234).

Waldorf’s McKenzie Cutter (238) finished eighth and Burke’s Alexandra Austin (242) placed 11th in the Girls Division.
