Who says Republicans and Democrats can’t get along?

Virginia Dels. Jim LeMunyon, R-Loudoun, and Mark-Keam, D-Fairfax, have introduced a bill to require that all votes taken by members in the state House and Senate be displayed online and accessible by member name.

Right now, the General Assembly’s website allows the public to retrieve voting records by bill number, but not by name.

The bill is basically the same as legislation introduced last year that passed the House but stalled in a Senate committee.

According to LeMunyon, some senators were concerned about additional costs for the House and Senate clerks as a result. But the Department of Planning and Budget has apparently helped determine otherwise, he said.

“The public deserves to know where we stand on any issue that comes before the House, and we have an obligation to make that informative readily available to our constituents,” said LeMunyon.
