Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett Wednesday appointed a development team for an ambitious mixed-use project next to a future Purple Line station.

The Donohoe Cos., one of the region's largest developers, and Montgomery Housing Partnership will coordinate the effort at the one-acre site next to the planned new Silver Spring Library, at the corner of Fenton and Bonifant streets.

“This project is another step in the evolution of Silver Spring,” Leggett said. “Donohoe and MHP are a highly qualified team for this mixed-use, mixed-income project.”

A mishmash of federal, state and local money is expected to fund the $1.6 billion Purple Line, on which trains could start running in 2016.
