RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A judge has refused a request to stop a Virginia veteran detained for radical anti-government Facebook posts from being moved to a psychiatric ward three hours from his home.
Civil liberties organization The Rutherford Institute said Tuesday that a special justice has denied the emergency motion filed by attorneys for 26-year-old ex-Marine Brandon Raub.
After a hearing Monday, a judge ordered that Raub be detained for psychiatric evaluation for one month. Rutherford says it filed a motion to stop Raub from being transferred from a Hopewell hospital to one in Salem.
Raub was taken to the hospital by Chesterfield County police Thursday after being questioned by the FBI and the U.S. Secret Service. Chesterfield police say county mental health crisis intervention workers recommended the temporary detention.
