TAMPA, Fla. — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Monday he will skip the Republican National Convention in Tampa this week with Tropical Storm Isaac threatening to hit the Gulf Coast as a hurricane as early as Tuesday.

“I will not be speaking or attending the Republican convention in Florida,” Jindal said. “There is no time for politics here in Louisiana.”

The storm is heading straight for the Gulf Coast on the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, one of the deadliest hurricanes in U.S. history.
