Jesus would approve of same-sex marriage, according to former President Jimmy Carter.
"I believe Jesus would approve gay marriage, but that's just my own personal belief," the Democrat said in a Tuesday interview on HuffPost Live.
"I think Jesus would encourage any love affair if it was honest and sincere and was not damaging to anyone else, and I don't see that gay marriage damages anyone else," Carter added.
Carter's comments come nearly two weeks after the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide.
Carter, 90, has upped his public profile as of late to promote his new memoir, A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety. He identifies himself as a Baptist.
