INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The new director and chief executive of the Indianapolis Museum of Art currently holds those positions at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Ky.,

The Indianapolis museum announced Wednesday its board of governors had appointed Charles Venable. He will take over on Oct. 8.

It says that during his five-year tenure in Louisville, Venable led a master plan to reinvigorate the Speed Museum, in part with a planned 200,000-square-foot expansion featuring a new building for modern and contemporary art. Speed has raised nearly 95 percent of its $50 million goal for the expansion,

Venable succeeds Maxwell Anderson, who left in January to become director of the Dallas Museum of Art.
