Huma Abedin announced on Monday she is separating from husband Anthony Weiner in the wake of his latest sexting revelation.
Abedin, a top aide to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, announced the separation in a statement less than 24 hours after a damning New York Post report revealed Weiner's latest sexting escapade.
"After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy," Abedin's statement reads.
In the most recent sexting scandal, the disgraced New York congressman was caught sending sexual photos to another woman during summer 2015, including one in which his son can be seen sleeping in the background.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after he was caught sending lewd texts and photos using the alias Carlos Danger. He had attempted to run for New York City mayor in 2013, but that campaign was derailed by another sexting scandal.
Abedin and Weiner were married in July 2010. She gave birth to their son in December 2011.
