Pentagon officials are planning to reconfigure the security checkpoints near the Pentagon Metro Station, a move that would disrupt commutes for thousands of Metro riders.
Catherine Hudgins, chairwoman of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, opposes the new security checkpoints. She outlined the proposed changes in a draft letter to Pentagon officials:
“The current configuration provides direct access to elevators to and from the bus bays via two covered walkways between the bus bays and escalators. The … proposed new configuration shows access will be restricted by moving security checkpoints away from the [Pentagon] building and closer to the bus bays, thereby blocking access to elevators and preventing use of the two covered walkways.”
