House Oversight and Government Reform Chair Jason Chaffetz has re-summoned State Secretary John Kerry to appear at a hearing next month following the former senator's failure to respond to Chaffetz's request earlier this summer, according to a letter the Washington Examiner obtained late Tuesday.
Kerry would be asked for details regarding the Iran nuclear agreement, ransom payment for U.S. prisoners, emails, edited government video and other issues.
The letter was a follow-up to one sent June 6 asking the top U.S. diplomat to appear at the "Administration of the State Department" hearing. Kerry would be expected to discuss the department's compliance with the Federal Records Act, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and embassy construction.
The Utah congressman alerted Kerry the committee intends to meet with him no later than Sept. 15.
Last week, State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau said Kerry, "as a former senator, the secretary takes very seriously our responsibilities to Congress."
The State Department has not agreed to a date for the hearing yet.
