A Virginia House of Delegates committee on Thursday signed off on a bill that would provide stricter regulation of abortion clinics.

The bill would require all abortion clinics where 25 or more first-trimester abortions are performed in any 12-month period to be licensed and regulated by the state Board of Health.

Should the bill advance in the Republican-led House, it faces a tough sled through the Democratic-controlled Senate, which has traditionally resisted any abortion restrictions.
