BALTIMORE (AP) — Johns Hopkins University says one of its professors will accept the Gruber Prize in cosmology in Beijing.

The university says Charles Bennett will receive the $500,000 prize Tuesday at a meeting of the International Astronomical Union.

Bennett led a 26-member team that worked on NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe. Data from the probe has helped astronomers refine their understanding of the age, shape and makeup of the universe.

The Gruber Prize is the second for Bennett, who also was a member of a NASA team that won the prize in 2006. Hopkins researchers David Larson and Janet Weiland are also members of the team that won this year's prize.
