Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity, R-Springfield, did not mince words when asked about the School Board’s decision to close Clifton Elementary.

“Once again, the School Board’s shown they represent their own interests, not their constituents’,” Herrity said.

Herrity said he believed the School Board planned all along to close the school, and had not been honest about its intentions with the residents of Clifton.

“The Clifton community showed time after time that the school system’s facts and figures were wrong. And every time they showed them they were wrong, the [School Board] changed the justification for closing Clifton,” he said.

Herrity said he was not willing to concede the closing of Clifton despite the School Board’s vote.

“It’s not over. This was round one,” Herrity said. “I don’t consider this to be a closed matter.”
