Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong fears the followers of Donald Trump are American Idiots, and went so far as to say the Republican presidential nominee is an Adolf Hitler-esque leader.
"The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are," Armstrong said in an interview with this week's issue of British music magazine Kerrang. "I actually feel bad for them, because they're poor, working-class people who can't get a leg up. They're pissed off and he's preyed on their anger. He just said, 'You have no options and I'm the only one, and I'm going to take care of it myself.' I mean, that's f—king Hitler, man!"
Armstrong, whose lyrical contributions to the pop-punk band's 2004 hit album "American Idiot" were largely interpreted as a hostile response to the then-Republican president George W. Bush's administration, appeared to regret some of his previous political posturing.
"I wish I were over-exaggerating. And sometimes maybe I do over-exaggerate with Bush. But with Trump, I just can't wait 'til he's gone," said Armstrong.
