WASHINGTON (AP) — Three Republican senators warning of impending defense budget cuts are hitting the presidential battleground state of Nevada.

Sens. John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte (AY'-aht) will travel to Nellis Air Force Base and hold a town hall in North Las Vegas on Monday.

Last week, the senators toured the battleground states of Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and New Hampshire.

The tour is designed to increase political pressure on President Barack Obama and Congress to avert the automatic, across-the-board cuts of $110 billion to defense and domestic programs on Jan. 2.

The Nevada stop also puts pressure on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in his home state. Reid and other Democrats argue that if Republicans want to stop the cuts they need to consider raising taxes on the wealthiest Americans.
