Sen John Boozman, the second Republican senator to meet with President Obama's nominee to the Supreme Court, said Tuesday he has not changed his opposition to holding a confirmation hearing or vote.
Boozman, of Arkansas, who is running for reelection this year, met with Judge Merrick Garland in his Senate office. The meeting was held at the request of the White House, Boozman said.
"My position is firm. That means I will not advocate for hearings or a vote, nor will I support filling the vacancy with President Obama's pick after the election."
Boozman is running for a second Senate term. His reelection prospects are listed as "solid" by the non-partisan Cook Political Report, which rates races.
