White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said he believes the GOP could take over the House in the November elections.
Gibbs, speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, said” there’s no doubt there are enough seats in play that could cause Republicans to gain control. There’s no doubt about that.”
Gibbs said the results would hinge on the ability of Democrats to inject fear of Republican control into the minds of voters and he offered a window into what the party would be offering on the campaign trail.
“Do you want to put into the speakership of the house a guy who thinks that the financial calamity is tantamount to an ant?,” Gibbs said, referring to a recent remark by House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. “The guy who’s the ranking member of the energy and commerce committee, Joe Barton started his congressional testimony of the CEO of BP by apologizing not to the people in the Gulf but to the CEO?”
Gibbs said “those are the types of things you’ll hear a lot I think from both the President and from local candidates about what you’ll get if the Republicans were to gain control.”
House Democrats currently have a 37 seat majority and outnumber Republicans 255 to 178.
