Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday afternoon for William Lockridge, the long-serving member of D.C.'s board of education who died last week.

Family and friends plan to honor Lockridge, who was 63, at noon at the Temple of Praise in Southeast.

Lockridge had served on D.C.'s board of education since 1998. He was the former president of the the Ward 8 Democrats and active with the D.C. Democratic State Committee.

On Jan. 7, Lockridge was admitted to the intensive care unit of George Washington University Hospital, where he was on life support, after suffering a stroke.

A candelight vigil was held outside his hospital window the following Monday.

"We thank the residents of the District, and our Ward 8 family, for uplifting William in prayer at Monday night's vigil," family spokeswoman Natalie Williams said.
