There was plenty of holiday spirit to go around this season at Ford's Theater.

A donation drive during performances of "A Christmas Carol" from Nov. 20 through Thursday raised $77,011 for the D.C.-based charity So Others Might Eat (SOME). Audience members were asked to donate during the curtain call and also at the box office. Members of the Ford's Theater Society staff donated money, and cast members contributed more than 25 boxes of clothing and toiletry items to SOME.

“You will make an enormous difference at SOME and in the lives of those who need your help,” SOME president Fr. John Adams said after being presented with the check onstage following last Thursday’s show.

The charity cares for Washington's homeless and poorest residents.
