The latest round of personal property tax bills are set to be mailed to Fairfax residents during the next few weeks, and taxpayers will notice a new charge has bulked up their bill’s bottom line.

The county has included a $33 vehicle registration fee for cars. That charge is slightly higher for vehicles heavier than 4,000 pounds, and slightly lower for motorcycles.

Residents are required to register all vehicles “that are normally garaged or parked” in Fairfax with the county’s Department of Tax Administration, even if the car is registered out of state. The $33 charge takes the place of windshield parking decals.

Residents of Clifton and Herndon still must purchase parking decals for those areas.
