A 20-year-old Fairfax resident has been charged with providing material support to the Somali terrorist organization al-Shabaab.

Zachary Adam Chesser, who also goes by Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee, was arrested Wednesday. He is also known for warning "South Park" creators earlier this year that they risked death because they mocked the prophet Muhammad on their show.

According to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Chesser told federal agents that he tried to go to Somalia twice to join al-Shabaab as a fighter. Authorities say Chesser once attempted to board a plane with his infant son in order to avoid detection.

Chesser has also corresponded with the radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, according to a court affidavit.
