President Obama has named former Time magazine Washington Bureau Chief Jay Carney as his new White House press secretary, replacing the departed Robert Gibbs.

But it appears Obama's decision came only after a rigorous series of auditions by a wide variety of applicants, several of whom you probably would never think of as being even remotely interested in being the most visible government spokesman in the world.
