A District man who escaped from a Maryland jail on Monday might be in the College Park area, according to the University of Maryland Department of Public Safety.

In an alert to the university community, campus police said 29-year-old Deandre Kelly was seen earlier this week near Seven Springs Village Apartments on the 9300 block of Cherry Hill Road. He had escaped from the Garrett County Detention Center, where he was being held pending a preliminary hearing on drug, firearms and other related charges, according to court records.

Kelly has not been seen on the university's campus, the alert said.

He is described as a black man who is about 6 feet tall and 275 pounds.
