A Virginia motorist has apparently had to return their vanity license plate after the Department of Motor Vehicles decided it was too lewd for public roadways.

According to the user-generated news website Reddit, the DMV revoked a special-issue “Kids First” Virginia plate with the personalized license plate “EATTHE” to spell out the phrase, well, you know…

The poster, under the username “WHOWANTSBEEF,” writes that the plate was intended as a joke, and when the DMV contacted them following complaints, they thought that the problem had to do with cannibalism.

But in a letter issued last July upholding its cancellation of the plate following a hearing, the DMV writes that the message could be construed to mean performing oral sex on children.
