The driver of a tanker truck loaded with 9,000 gallons of fuel was found dead after a fiery crash in Fairfax County, police said.
About 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, the truck overturned on the ramp of the Fairfax County Parkway as it tried to merge onto Interstate 95 north, according to Virginia State Police.
The vehicle was engulfed by flames, and by 5 a.m. the fire had been contained enough so that firefighters and state troopers could safely approach the truck. The body of the driver -- 59-year-old Edwin H. Hall, of Charles Town, W.Va. -- was found inside.
The crash's cause is under investigation, and Hall's remains were taken to the medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
