Arlington residents can find out when demolition crews will tear down the old Arlington Mill Community Center at a public meeting Tuesday evening.

The community center is slated for demolition now that the County Board approved construction of a new community center, expected to open in early 2013. The new center will feature a five-story main building and gym was well as underground parking.

Tuesday’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. at Greenbrier Baptist Church, 5401 7th Road, Arlington. Officials expect the current building to be demolished by the end of February. Construction plans will be released later this spring.

The community center is just the first phase of redevelopment at Arlington Mill. The county also has plans to build new housing on the site, though officials are still looking for a private developer to help with that project.
