WASHINGTON (AP) — A District of Columbia task force is looking into whether to lower fines for traffic cameras.

Council member Mary Cheh told WTOP (http://bit.ly/PlnoRo) that she want to know whether increases in fines has led to fewer people speeding or running red lights. The penalty for running a red light is $150 while getting caught by a speed camera can cost as much as $250.

Cheh formed the task force along with Councilmember Tommy Wells. The task force is scheduled to hold meetings this week. Cheh says the review process could take several months.
