President Donald Trump would find a great ally in former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke, the Louisiana U.S. Senate candidate declared Friday.
"As a United States senator, nobody will be more supportive of his legislative agenda, his Supreme Court agenda than I will," Duke said in an interview with NPR's Steve Inskeep that aired Friday on "Morning Edition."
Duke announced on July 22 that he would be running for the Republican nomination for a Senate seat in Louisiana, saying Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, made his platform become the party's mainstream.
Of Trump's political agenda, Duke added Friday, "I'm 100 percent behind it. I have a long record of being in favor of protecting our borders from this massive immigration."
Republicans who have spoken out against Trump and decided not to vote for him are "betraying the principles of the Republican Party and certainly conservatism," Duke remarked.
Duke added that he doesn't believe that Trump is a racist, and that there is "massive racist racial discrimination against European Americans."
Duke has said he is running for Senate to "defend the rights of European Americans."
