Erica Smegielski, the daughter of the late Sandy Hook Principal Dawn Hochsprung, hit back at Donald Trump Tuesday night, asking the Republican nominee if he thought gun violence was a joke.

".@realDonaldTrump you think gun violence is a joke? Would love to tell you about Mom's life and gruesome MURDER," Smegielski tweeted at Trump.

Earlier in the day, Trump had told attendees at a North Carolina rally that Clinton wants to abolish the Second Amendment and if she gets to pick appointees to the Supreme Court, "there's nothing you can do, folks." He then added the controversial line, "although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is." His campaign team issued a statement later saying he did not mean anything violent.

Smegielski is a Democrat and spoke at the party's convention in Philadelphia two weeks ago. Democratic lawmakers have also attacked Trump for his comments.
