On this day, July 25, in 1997, Autumn Jackson was found guilty of trying to extort $40 million from Bill Cosby, the man she claimed was her father.

The verdict against Jackson, 22, followed a trial in which Cosby's reputation as an all-American dad was damaged.

Cosby testified that he had an affair with Jackson's mother, and had paid more than $100,000 to the mother and daughter for Jackson's schooling, a car and living expenses. But the comedian denied being her father. Jackson's attorneys said her mother told her, at age 5, that the voice of Fat Albert was her father's.

Jackson served 23 months in prison and gave birth to twins while incarcerated.
