Police: No link between bodies found in Potomac
The identity of the person whose body was pulled from the Potomac River Saturday morning remains unknown but police do not think the case is related to a similar case from July. A boater found the body near Edwards Ferry in Poolesville about 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Police now believe it belongs to an adult male but are awaiting a medical examiner's autopsy to determine the cause of death and identify the person from dental records, Montgomery Police Capt. Paul Starks said Sunday. He said this latest death doesn't appear related to a July 28 case in which a man's body was found slightly upriver, near White's Ferry. Neither body had any obvious signs of trauma.
PG cops focus on six nighttime crime hotspots
Prince George's County police have launched a two-week long nighttime campaign to target six crime hotspots in the county. Special teams of officers and detectives will concentrate on the Langley Park, East Riverdale/Bladensburg, Suitland/Coral Hills, Kentland/Palmer Park, Hillcrest Heights/Marlow Heights, and Glassmanor/Oxon Hill neighborhoods. The intensive patrols are intended to help minimize the number of homicides and other crimes in the county this year, after a surge in slayings last year.
Man charged with murder after fight over food
A 19-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder in the Saturday slaying of a Capitol Heights man. Prince George's County police said Travis Everett Hoskins was arrested on Sunday in Washington, D.C., in connection with the shooting of Oliver Gregson Davis. Police found the 29-year-old Davis fatally shot in his home in the 700 block of Glacier Avenue at 1:54 p.m. The two men lived there together and police said they had been arguing about food. The suspect then went to get a gun, shot Davis, and fled, police said. - Kytja Weir
