On this day, July 22, 1991, cannibal and serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer is caught after police spot a young man running down the street in handcuffs.
It was the second time officers had been led back to Dahmer's apartment. In May, after responding to a call about a 14-year-old boy wandering the streets naked, police had allowed Dahmer to bring the boy home after Dahmer claimed him as a boyfriend.
This time, Milwaukee police were more suspicious. They searched Dahmer's apartment and found photographs of dying victims and decomposing human remains, including severed heads in the refrigerator.
Dahmer's 13 years of killing were over after claiming 17 victims. He spent the rest of his life in prison, where he was murdered in 1994.
