DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche have signed forward Mitchell Heard to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The 20-year-old was Colorado's first pick in the 2012 draft. He was chosen in the second round.

Heard averaged a point-per-game with the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers last season and finished with 29 goals, 28 assists and 111 penalty minutes in 57 games.
