Federal authorities arrested a British citizen at Thurgood Marshall Baltimore-Washington International Airport on charges that he stole the identity of a Senate aide who died in 1994.
State Department officials said Thursday that John Skelton, who lives in Baltimore, posed as a former aide to Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who had died at the age of 28. Skelton had obtained a passport in Kurt Branham’s name.
Skelton, 41, was arrested at BWI Monday night after he presented a fraudulently obtained U.S. passport to re-enter the U.S. following a trip to the United Kingdom. Skelton obtained the passport in 2005.
Police said he faces charges of fraud, false statements and posing as a U.S. citizen.
