SAO PAULO (AP) — The Brazilian Olympic Committee says boxing officials have turned down its request to review the result of the Olympic final.
The committee had asked officials to analyze the 75kg division final in which Esquiva Florentino Falcao lost 14-13 to Japanese boxer Ryoto Murata, but the International Boxing Association said Tuesday that there was not enough evidence to prompt a review.
The committee made the request after learning through Brazilian media that referee Mariusz Gorn of Poland told an official after the fight that he made a mistake and regretted giving Falcao a two-point penalty that eventually proved costly for the Brazilian.
The boxing association told the committee that the referee only showed sympathy for the Brazilian's loss but never implied he made a mistake.
