Joggers and tourists were greeted with a grisly sight Monday morning as the decomposing body of woman was found in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore near the Maryland Science Center.
Police were called to the popular tourist destination around 7 a.m. after a passerby spotted the body near the end of a pier.
Police said the woman was wearing a Baltimore City Community College identification badge around her neck. They estimate she had been in the water for two to three days, sources said. Police have not released the identity.
"The body was decomposed, so it was difficult to tell is there was any sign of trauma," said Kevin Cartwright, spokesman for the Baltimore City Fire Department.
The State Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
