AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Leaders have finally selected a name for the consolidated Augusta State and Georgia Health Sciences universities.
The University System of Georgia selected Georgia Regents University as the name of the school on Tuesday after months of discussion and thousands of suggestions.
The Augusta Chronicle (http://bit.ly/OXhZSq ) reports the name was one of three finalists, which included University of Augusta and Georgia Arts & Sciences University.
The newly merged university will have nearly 10,000 students and more than 1,000 full-time faculty members.
The system picked the name despite an objection from the Virginia-based Regent University, which is a mostly online school that operates in Georgia and other states.
