Twelve down, about 100 to go.

Arlington County has chosen the first 12 locations for the Capital Bikeshare program, according to the county’s bike sharing consultant, Paul DeMaio.

The county board approved the measure for the stations at Crystal City, Pentagon City and Potomac Yard. To see a map of the proposed locations, click on this PDF and flip to page 17.

The bike stations are part of a new program between the county and the District of Columbia to expand the existing SmartBike DC program across the river, creating a network of 1,000 bikes to be shared among 114 stations. Riders can rent a bike for a short trip, then drop it off at one of the stations. The expanded program is slated to begin this fall.
