AAA Mid-Atlantic is happy to see a Virginia governor push forward a creative transportation funding plan. What remains to be seen is if politicians get in the way, according to a AAA spokeswoman.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced a proposal this afternoon for nearly 900 transportation projects, and asked state lawmakers to help him secure the funding necessary. McDonnell wants to borrow and spend billions in the next three years to fix roads and help replenish the state’s transportation fund.

AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Martha Meade said all that’s left is to see if the plan makes it out of the General Assembly.

“Richmond does not suffer from a lack of brainpower,” said AAA spokeswoman Martha Meade. “It has, however, been challenged in the past with the political willpower to move beyond the provincial, the parochial and the partisan, and do what is right for the entire commonwealth.”
