The Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance has a message for the Arlington County Board: “Bad decisions can have bad consequences.”
In this case the bad decision, according to NVTA, is the county’s lawsuit blocking the construction of high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes on I-95/395. The county has spent more than $1 million on the lawsuit, which personally names several federal and state transportation leaders in claims of civil rights violations.
The bad consequences include actions taken at the General Assembly in Richmond – specifically, according to NVTA, Del. Tim Hugo’s multiple budget amendments to strip Arlington County of future transportation funding and his efforts to block renewal of the county’s special hotel tax.
If the Arlington County Board finds it acceptable to continue the lawsuit, NVTA writes in its blog, “then perhaps there is no reason to honor some of Arlington’s legislative requests.”
