Angela Alsobrooks was sworn in as Prince George’s County’s top prosecutor before a packed courtroom audience on Tuesday.

Those who spoke during the ceremony in Upper Marlboro made it clear that Alsobrooks has her hands full as she takes over the state’s attorney office for a county facing crime and ethics issues.

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker referenced President John F. Kennedy speaking of being a “city upon a hill” where all eyes are watching. “Today, Prince George’s is that city on the hill,” he said.

Outgoing state’s attorney Glenn Ivey, who didn’t run for re-election but endorsed Alsobrooks in the election to replace him, turned to Alsobrooks during the ceremony and said, “You’ve got a tough job ahead of you.”

But Ivey offered his full confidence of Alsobrooks' ability, saying he is impressed with the way she interacts with everyone, not just those in high-profile positions. He also went on to say he views Alsobrooks as the type of public official who will not get caught up in the prestige or “trappings” of holding office like others before her.
