Four fires were reported overnight at Prince George's County homes that lost power during the snowstorm.
Prince George's County fire and emergency services said the blazes occurred:
- At a home on the 100 block of Green Hill Avenue in Greenbelt at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fire began in the basement and the cause is still being investigated. No one was injured.
- At a house on the 4000 block of Alton Street in Capitol Heights at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. A 10-year-old boy and a 60-year-old woman were taken to a hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. The fire department said an unattended candle sparked the blaze.
- At a home on the 4500 block of Woodgate Way in Glenn Dale at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday. An adult woman had to be rescued by firefighters and was taken to a hospital in serious condition for treatment of second-degree burns and smoke inhalation. The fire began in the kitchen, authorities said. The cause is still under investigation.
- At a house on the 5000 block of Pierce Avenue in College Park at 5:30 a.m. No one was injured but the first floor partially collapsed. Authorities said fire stemmed from a basement fireplace.
