WYTHEVILLE, Va. (AP) — Police say three West Virginia residents were killed in a three-vehicle crash in southwestern Virginia.
Five other people were injured in the Saturday morning crash on Route 21 in Wythe County.
Virginia State Police say 52-year-old Florence J. Braxton of North Fork and 30-year-old Taurean A. Walker and 59-year-old Rufus S. Jones, both of Eckman, died. They were in a minivan that was struck head-on by a northbound pickup truck that crossed into the southbound lane. The truck sideswiped a sport-utility vehicle before hitting the van.
Three passengers in the van and one in the SUV were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The pickup driver, 32-year-old John C. Parker of Jackson, Miss., was hospitalized with serious injuries. He's charged with reckless driving.
