ABINGDON, Va. (AP) — Two Gate City residents have been charged with destroying property in the Jefferson National Forest.
A four-count federal grand jury indictment against 26-year-old Jeremy D. Scalf and 24-year-old Christopher Lee Sons was unsealed Tuesday in Abingdon. Scalf is charged with two counts of destruction of government property and two counts of arson. Sons faces one charge of destruction of government property.
According to the indictment, in late May the two men pulled a metal gate out of the ground and destroyed it. Scalf allegedly then set fire to an information kiosk at the trail head of Little Stoney Falls.
Their attorneys did not immediately return telephone messages.
