A 17-year-old girl was found fatally shot inside her Prince George's County home.
The incident happened about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Chartsey Street in Kettering, police said. The victim, Amber Stanley, was found in her bedroom.
Someone came into the residence, shot Amber and left, police spokesman Officer Edward Martin said. There were other occupants in the residence at the time, but they were non injured.
Amber was a senior at Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Springdale. Its principal, Gorman Brown, described her as a "very intelligent young lady, great smile." He added that she was a "very focused student" and had "great grades."
Amber was a student in the science and technology program and was part of a group of students trying to form a young doctors club. Teachers and friends told Brown that Amber was an aspiring physician.
The school had grief counselors meet with students who wanted to talk, Brown said.
Police are classifying the incident a homicide, and no suspect information was available.
